Job Summary
Embalmer Apprentice performs embalming, disinfection, dressing, and casketing of the deceased using appropriate precautions and OSHA standards in a manner that honors the deceased; maintains chain of custody throughout the preparation process; ensures embalming room, dressing areas, storage areas, and cooler facilities are cleaned, disinfected, and secured at the end of every shift; requires excellent communication skills (written and verbal), ethical conduct, and ability to handle challenging, sensitive situations; maintains a sterile and safe work environment per company, government, and industry rules; completes and enforces record keeping, identification, and casketing procedures; collaborates with a team dedicated to compassionate care; requires high school diploma or equivalent and enrollment in or completion of a mortuary science program; licensing requirements and a valid driver’s license; ability to lift over 100 pounds.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of or currently enrolled in a diploma training program at a recognized college or technical school specializing in funeral service or mortuary science
- Graduation pending from accredited mortuary college or other degree as required by state/province law
- Licenses: must meet all licensing requirement in applicable state/province as required by law and as prescribed by each state board
- Current state/province issued driver's license
- Experience: None required
