Job Summary
Teach morning and afternoon ELT classes to adult refugees at Beginning and Low Beginning levels, focusing on survival English and work skills. Plan lessons and activities appropriate for students' proficiency levels while connecting them with community resources and services. Provide in-person group instruction and tutoring, manage attendance and progress records, and train volunteers for individual or small group sessions. Drive clients to ELT orientations if needed and ensure all documentation is recorded in agency databases. Adapt communication methods to diverse classrooms as new students join weekly. Work in a classroom and office setting with moderate noise, reporting to the Adult Education Coordinator.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- experience teaching ELT to adults
- Ability to sit, stand and walk for extended periods of time
- Ability to work under pressure, effectively utilize time and resources and use sound judgment when making decisions
- Significant ability to multi-task and respond to deadlines
- Ability to work well with a diverse group of people
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs
- Strong classroom management skills
- Ability to provide high-quality instructions to different English proficiency levels, from literacy to advanced level students
- Must have good technology-related skills for teaching in a virtual classroom like Zoom or Google Classroom and other programs for online teaching
- Must be able to communicate well verbally and in writing with colleagues, clients, and other community members
- Must have good organizational and critical thinking skills
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality of any information encountered
- Must demonstrate self-confidence, enthusiasm, and initiative
- Ability to read, write and understand the English language
