Job Summary
Assist English Language Learner students in developing English language skills by interpreting directions, observing classroom activities, and reinforcing teacher-directed learning through reading and guided practice. Prepare instructional materials with guidance and provide individualized assistance during community settings. Use positive reinforcement strategies to manage behavior during transitions, lunch, and recess while supervising students throughout the school day. Attend parent/teacher conferences as required and maintain professional growth through district training. Work a 190-day schedule with a 7.5-hour day, reporting to the Building Administrator within the Office of Schools.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma, HiSET, or G.E.D
- Ability to relate to students
- Knowledge of second language acquisition and instruction
- Ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse workforce and student population
- Effective written and oral communication
- Basic computer skills
- Maintain confidentiality
- Attend work on a prompt and regular basis
- Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public, students, and other employees
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs
- Must be able to carry 25 feet
