Job Summary
Conduct inspections to ensure proper installation and safe operation of elevators, escalators, people lifts, and freight elevators. Witness tests involving personal risk while enforcing codes and specifications from the International Building Code, National Electrical Code, and national elevator code books. Work independently to perform acceptance, annual, five-year, and remodel inspection tests, utilizing skills in reading blueprints and assessing system conditions. Record information accurately and communicate findings verbally and in writing. This safety-sensitive position reports to the Chief Electrical Inspector within the Development Center Division of the Development Services Department. Employees work locally on a daily basis, often requiring travel to construction sites and exposure to heights, noise, and electrical hazards.
Required Qualifications
- Knowledge of proper materials and devices used in elevator construction
- Knowledge of properly operating elevator systems
- Knowledge of procedures for testing elevator systems
- Knowledge of and skill in following safety procedures
- Skill in reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, and drawings
- Skill in assessing the overall condition of different elevators, escalators and people lift systems
- Skill in using standard office equipment
- Skill in recording information accurately
- Skill in communicating verbally and in writing using tact and diplomacy
- Ability to interpret, explain, and apply knowledge of elevator, electrical, and building codes to work performed
- Ability to perform acceptance, annual, five year and remodel inspection tests
- Ability to work independently in the performance of assigned tasks
- Ability and willingness to make objective decisions
- Ability and willingness to work in enclosed or high areas
- Possession of a current State of Oklahoma Elevator Inspector License
- Possession of a current State of Oklahoma Qualified Elevator Inspector Certification
- Possession of valid driver license (Operator)
- Possession of a permanent State Elevator Inspector License and Qualified Elevator Certification within one year from the date of hire
- Willingness to work irregular hours such as shifts, weekends, and holidays, and be on 24-hour call
- Willingness to work from ladders, floors with no surrounding walls, etc., 12 feet or more above ground level
- Willingness to work near moving machinery, power tools, and vehicles in motion
- Willingness to be exposed to steady and fairly loud noises from machinery and equipment used at construction sites
- Willingness to be exposed to large amounts of dust when performing inspections at construction sites
- Willingness to be exposed to the possibility of severe electrical shock when inspecting electrical connections that handle electrical power up to 480 volts or more
- Willingness to be exposed to the possibility of falls from working on and around slippery surfaces such as construction sites after it has rained, snowed, etc.
- Willingness to conduct local travel on a daily basis to conduct inspections
