Job Summary
Conduct inspections of elevators, escalators, dumbwaiters, and other conveyance systems to verify compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and safety standards. Perform and witness acceptance, periodic, and safety testing, documenting results and commissioning activities before equipment is placed into service. Review new installations, modernization, and rehabilitation projects for compliance with the NYC Building Code, ASME A17.1, and project specifications. Identify code violations, unsafe conditions, and equipment deficiencies, then coordinate with contractors, owners, and regulatory agencies to facilitate project delivery. Investigate complaints and incidents, prepare detailed inspection reports, and verify completion of corrective actions through final resolution. Maintain active NYC DOB credentials and stay current with industry standards.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5–10 years of elevator inspection experience
- Thorough knowledge of NYC Building Code, Elevator Code, and ASME A17.1
- Maintain active NYC DOB Elevator Inspector credentials
- Stay current with applicable codes, industry standards, and regulatory requirements
- Strong technical report writing and documentation skills
- Experience coordinating with contractors, consultants, owners, and regulatory agencies
- Must be available for regular attendance in New York, NY
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with elevator modernization and rehabilitation projects in occupied residential buildings
- NYCHA, public agency, or occupied multifamily residential elevator modernization experience
- QEI preferred
