Job Summary
Certified Elevator Inspector to join our California inspection team. You will conduct periodic safety inspections of electric and hydraulic elevators, escalators, dumbwaiters, moving walks, and lifts in commercial, residential, and public facilities. Ensure compliance with California's Elevator Safety Orders and the ASME A17.1 family of standards, protecting public safety while maintaining high professional standards. Responsibilities include conducting inspections, issuing Permits to Operate, applying ASME A17.1/A17.2 standards, documenting findings, following NEIS safety policies, collaborating with building owners and maintenance staff, and staying current with code updates. Requires California Certified Elevator Inspector certification, 4+ years journeyman experience in mechanical/electrical fields, 1 year direct elevator-related experience, and willingness to complete required training. Travel throughout California is required; position is full-time with potential for occasional after-hours inspections.
Required Qualifications
- Must hold or be eligible to obtain California Certified Elevator Inspector certification under Cal. Code Regs. Tit. 8, § 3003
- Minimum 4 years of experience in mechanical or electrical fields at the journeyman level
- Minimum 1 year of direct experience in the design, construction, installation, repair, or inspection of elevators
- Demonstrated knowledge of fundamental mechanical and electrical principles as applied to elevators and conveyances
- Completion of at least 90 days of intensive elevator inspection training in California under direct supervision of a certified inspector (or willingness to complete prior to certification)
- Strong understanding of ASME A17.1 and A17.2 standards and California Elevator Safety Orders/Ability to interpret written code documents and make sound technical inferences
- Strong understanding of the California Regulations related to Conveyances
- Current California Certified Elevator Inspector certification (preferred)
- Prior experience with Bureau Veritas or similar inspection organizations (preferred)
