Job Summary
Resolve students' educational difficulties and assist them in adjusting to school life, sex, culture, or ethnic background. Interpret the school's objectives to students, parents, and the community, specifically regarding the guidance and counseling program. Work with faculty to aid at-risk students and address personal problems related to home, family, health, and emotional adjustment. Confer with parents, serve as a resource on student discipline, and act as a liaison between the school and outside agencies. Arrange tutors and summer school work while maintaining appropriate records and protecting confidentiality. Participate in faculty committees, student activity groups, and classroom supporting activities. Maintain professional competence through in-service activities and state counselor meetings. Serve as the Drug Free Schools Coordinator.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Master of Arts, Master of Science, Ed. D., or Ph. D., degree in an appropriate teaching area
- Valid State of Iowa Teacher Certification with proper endorsement or ability to obtain temporary certification
- Must have the ability to lift fifty or more pounds on a repetitive basis
- Regular and reliable attendance
- Must be able to lift fifty or more pounds on a repetitive basis

- Is familiar with play therapy and other methods of helping kids
