Job Summary
Special Education Teacher to provide specialized learning experiences and supervision of students with disabilities in a supportive classroom. Responsibilities include implementing the IEP; coordinating with regular education staff; developing and annually reviewing IEPs; collaborating with the Child Study Team and parents; maintaining progress records; communicating with families; supervising paraprofessionals as needed; employing varied instructional methods and accommodations; planning and delivering engaging lessons; ensuring a safe, positive classroom climate; and pursuing ongoing professional development as required by state and district policies. The role emphasizes advocacy for students with disabilities, alignment with Common Core standards, and the use of approved curricula and technology to enhance instruction. Salary and benefits are governed by the Penns Grove- Carneys Point Regional Teacher Negotiated Agreement; the annual salary range is $65,390 to $99,775.
Required Qualifications
- Experience teaching with children with exceptional needs
- Comprehensive knowledge of special education assessment and program requirements
- Ability to communicate effectively in English (oral and written)
- Ability to use technology and electronic equipment for instruction
- Knowledge of IEP development and coordination with Child Study Team
- Ability to work with staff, parents, and community
- Adhere to state and district procedures for professional development and records
- Certification in special education (Cert. 1001 & Cert. 2475) required
- Knowledge of Common Core Standards and related instructional strategies
- Ability to collaborate with regular education teachers when students are mainstreamed
