Job Summary
Elementary School Teacher at Uncommon Elementary School within the Uncommon Schools network. You will co-teach and create a joyful, standards-aligned classroom environment delivering math, reading and writing (phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension), ELA curriculum, science (geology, astronomy, ecology, nature cycles), and social studies with an emphasis on diverse histories and civic awareness. You’ll meet weekly with the principal/instructional coach to analyze student work and differentiate instruction. You’ll support school culture, family partnerships, and participate in weekly meetings, with duties including morning arrival, lunch duty, class transitions, and after-school dismissal. A bachelor’s degree is required; NY certification eligibility is required or pursued, with certification in NY within a reasonable period after starting. The compensation ranges from $50,000 to $64,700 for full-time employment. Starting pay factors include relevant full-time teaching experience, certifications, and tenure. Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
- NY state certification eligibility requirements; enrollment in a teacher preparation program and maintaining a 2.5 GPA if not have a degree in education
- Certification not required to be hired at Uncommon but must become certified in NY within a reasonable period after beginning employment
- 1-2 years experience preferred in impacting K-12 students in urban schools and communities
- Academic expertise in Elementary Education, Humanities, English, Social Sciences, or related fields of study
- Commitment to students’ social emotional and academic development
- Ability to engage with families in the best interest of students
