Job Summary
Elementary School Teacher at Uncommon Schools: co-teach and foster an engaging, joyful classroom; teach foundational mathematics, reading and writing (phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension), ELA curriculum with meaningful texts, science (geology, astronomy, ecology, cycles; climate change awareness), and social studies with cultural and civic awareness; participate in data-driven cycles with principal/coach; build positive relationships with students and families; engage in practice-based professional development, mentorship, and coaching; support school activities (morning arrival, lunch duty, assemblies, transitions, dismissal) and weekly school-wide meetings; collaborate with grade-level teams to set academic goals and apply instructional strategies.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education or related field
- NY state certification eligibility requirements
- Enrollment in teacher preparation program if lacking degree in education
- GPA 2.5+ during employment if no degree in education
- NY state certification within a reasonable period after beginning employment
- 1-2 years experience in urban schools preferred
