Job Summary
Plan a program of study meeting individual student needs, create a conducive learning environment, and guide lessons toward curriculum goals. Employ appropriate instructional methods, assess student progress regularly, and provide required reports. Counsel with colleagues, students, and parents; assist administration in implementing policies; and develop classroom rules to maintain order. Supervise teacher assistants when assigned and strive to maintain professional competence. Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required. Maintain confidentiality of student information and communicate clearly with all stakeholders while complying with local, state, and federal policies.
Required Qualifications
- Valid teaching certificate in North Carolina or be able to obtain one
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of student information
- Ability to follow detailed written and oral instructions
- Working knowledge of effective methods of dealing with children
- General knowledge of methods of adapting instruction, equipment and tools for students with special needs
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
- Physical ability (able to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally) and dexterity to perform the duties and responsibilities of the job, such as, walk, lift, stoop, stand, grasp, kneel, crouch and key requiring repetitive motions
