Job Summary
Elementary SPED Tutor positions in Avalon, CA for 1:1 in-home tutoring. Provide personalized instruction in literacy (phonics, early reading, vocabulary, comprehension), foundational math (number sense, basic operations), and executive functioning (focus, organization, task completion, sustained attention) to students with special needs, guided by students' IEPs. Deliver tailored, multisensory, hands-on lessons in students’ homes; establish routines, incorporate movement breaks, and use frequent redirection and positive reinforcement to maintain engagement. Build rapport with families and monitor progress, adjusting instructional approaches as needed. Schedule entails 6 hours per month, 2 sessions per week for 45 minutes each; compensation ranges from $25-$35 per hour. Required Qualifications
- Experience working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and ADHD
- Strong understanding of foundational literacy instruction including phonics, early reading development, vocabulary, and reading comprehension
- Skilled in teaching foundational math concepts, number sense, basic operations
- Experience supporting executive functioning skills such as focus, organization, task initiation, and sustained attention
- Ability to break down academic tasks into manageable steps and provide consistent reinforcement
- Comfortable implementing structured routines, frequent redirection, and positive behavior supports
- Creative and flexible in adapting lessons to meet learning needs and interests
- Strong communication skills and ability to build rapport with students and families
- Ability to create engaging lessons balancing academic instruction with movement and motivation
- Experience with IEP-based instruction and individualized education planning
