Job Summary
Support classroom instruction, provide one-on-one or small group assistance to students with unique learning needs, and monitor students during activities, recess, and lunch to ensure safety. Implement behavior management strategies as directed to maintain a conducive learning environment. Assist the teacher in delivering lessons, prepare instructional materials, organize the classroom, and maintain records of student progress and attendance. Collaborate with teachers, parents, and staff to update on student progress and address concerns. Work under the direction of a certified Special Education Teacher or administrator in self-contained, resource, or general education settings to help students access their curriculum and achieve IEP goals.
Required Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Patience and Empathy
- Organization and Multitasking
- Willingness to work collaboratively with teachers and other educational professionals
Desired Qualifications
- Associate's degree or college coursework in education or a related field
- Prior experience working with children, such as in childcare, camp, or volunteer setting
- Experience in a school environment
