Job Summary
Assist the special education teacher in providing physical, instructional, and behavioral needs for students with disabilities across special and general education settings. Implement classroom programs including self-help, behavior management, and instruction while maintaining student records, preparing instructional materials, and supervising students during activities, transitions, and field trips. Support students with self-care tasks such as feeding, dressing, and toileting, and carry out behavior interventions and therapy programs requiring lifting and positioning. Adhere to federal, state, and local policies, participate in professional training and meetings, and provide orientation to substitute teachers. Maintain confidentiality, use approved physical safety techniques including restraint, and ensure emotional control under stress while performing moderate physical demands like heavy lifting and standing.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Paraprofessional Aide certification from state of Texas
- Ability to work with children with disabilities
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Knowledge of general office equipment
- Ability to physically manage students with motor and/or behavioral difficulties
- Certification in Crisis Prevention Intervention and/or Safety Care
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds or more
- Ability to control behavior through physical restraint
- Ability to assist non-ambulatory students
- Ability to maintain emotional control under stress
- Dress and shoes appropriate to job responsibilities
