Job Summary

Plan and deliver engaging physical education instruction aligned with state standards, covering team sports, fitness, and cooperative games. Assess student progress in physical skills and health concepts while maintaining a safe, inclusive environment. Adapt lessons for diverse needs, reinforce sportsmanship, and manage classroom behavior in gym and outdoor settings. Collaborate with staff, parents, and administrators; maintain accurate records and inventory equipment. Work standard school hours with extended prep and grading before and after school, plus evening or weekend duties. Requires South Carolina certification, valid driver's license, and negative TB test.

Required Qualifications

  • South Carolina certification in Physical Education/Health
  • Experience with differentiated instruction and inclusive teaching practices
  • Familiar with educational technology tools
  • Strong classroom management skills and a growth-oriented mindset
  • Must have and maintain a valid Driver's License or ability to provide own transportation
  • Prior to beginning employment, negative tb test results must be provided
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies
  • Ability to fulfill the dexterity and physical requirements of the work and effectively attend to students
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Ability to subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measurement, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Application of percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations is required
  • Ability to read and assess student work, view computer screens, and monitor student behavior visually
  • Ability to hear student questions and school announcements
  • Must manage interpersonal dynamics, conflicts, and communications in a professional and respectful way
  • Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and to speak effectively with students and/or employees in a school environment
  • Knowledge of federal and state special education laws and regulations
  • Knowledge of physical education principles, health education, and child development
  • Knowledge of the needs of students
  • Exceptional knowledge of the needs of students
  • Strong skills in classroom management, collaboration, and differentiated instruction
  • Strong communication skills with students, staff, administration, and the public
  • Understanding a child's behavior and dynamics
  • Skilled in problem solving and patience
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community
  • Ability to motivate and engage elementary school students in physical activity
  • Knowledge needed to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and to speak effectively with students and/or employees in a school environment
  • Effective and innovative instructional and student evaluation techniques
  • Three professional references with at least one supervisory reference
  • Copy of the appropriate credentials

Desired Qualifications

  • May be required to travel to school district buildings and professional meetings
  • Evening or weekend work is common for lesson prep, grading, parent communication, or professional development
  • Standard school hours, but teachers often work before and after school for planning, grading, meetings, or extracurricular activities
