Job Summary
Plan and implement a comprehensive physical education curriculum aligned with state and district standards, delivering instruction in team sports, individual fitness, and cooperative games. Assess student progress in physical fitness and skill development while maintaining accurate records of attendance, grades, and student progress. Establish a safe, structured environment for all activities and adapt instruction to meet the diverse needs of elementary students. Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and parents to support student success, and ensure proper use and inventory of equipment and facilities. Participate in school-related activities, meetings, and professional development while following all district policies and safety guidelines.
Required Qualifications
- South Carolina certification in Physical Education/Health
- Valid Driver's License or ability to provide own transportation
- Negative tb test results
- Exceptional knowledge of the needs of students
- Knowledge of physical education principles, health education, and child development
- Knowledge needed to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and to speak effectively with students and/or employees in a school environment
- Knowledge of federal and state special education laws and regulations
- Knowledge of effective and innovative instructional and student evaluation techniques
- Strong skills in classroom management, collaboration, and differentiated instruction
- Strong communication skills with students, staff, administration, and the public
- Understanding a child's behavior and dynamics
- Skilled in problem solving and patience
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community
- Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies
- Ability to fulfill the dexterity and physical requirements of the work and effectively attend to students
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
- Ability to subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measurement, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Application of percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
- Experience with differentiated instruction and inclusive teaching practices
- Familiar with educational technology tools
- Strong classroom management skills and a growth-oriented mindset
- Ability to manage interpersonal dynamics, conflicts, and communications in a professional and respectful way
Desired Qualifications
- May be required to travel to school district buildings and professional meetings
- Evening or weekend work is common for lesson prep, grading, parent communication, or professional development
