Job Summary
Assist classroom teachers with students' academic, physical, and behavioral needs by implementing Individualized Education Plan goals and reinforcing material introduced in class. Modify student assignments as needed, ensure work is completed and returned, and perform various office and clerical tasks including locating instructional materials and taking notes. Handle non-instructional duties such as cleaning, copying, and posting bulletin boards while maintaining confidential files and compiling reports. Requires a high school diploma or GED, ability to operate standard computer equipment, and effective communication with students, teachers, and parents.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- General knowledge of classroom teaching practices, methods, and techniques
- General skill in using classroom and instructional equipment
- General skill operating standard computer equipment, hardware and software
- Some skill using standard accounting software
- Ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals
- Ability to maintain confidential files and information and to compile reports
- Ability to deal effectively with students and teachers
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, parents, and students
- Ability to perform each essential function satisfactorily
- Ability to perform the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force
- Ability to work frequently sitting and speaking or hearing
- Ability to occasionally stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, push, or pull and lift
- Ability to meet standard vision requirements
- Ability to communicate vocally for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly
- Ability to hear to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound
- Ability to prepare and analyze written or computer data
- Ability to use measuring devices
- Ability to assemble or fabricate parts within arm's length
- Ability to operate machines and observe general surroundings and activities
- Ability to work near moving mechanical parts
- Ability to work in a moderately noisy location
- Ability to wear specialized personal protective equipment if required
