Job Summary
Waltham Public Schools seeks an Elementary ESL Teacher to provide direct language instruction to English Learners in a standards-based, student-centered classroom. The role requires MA DESE licensure in ESL with SEI Endorsement and involves differentiating instruction, aligning with Massachusetts Frameworks and WIDA Standards, maintaining a safe, organized classroom, and collaborating with families and school staff. The position emphasizes culturally responsive pedagogy, ongoing professional development, equity, and high expectations for student proficiency. Salary is as per the WEA contract; employment is full-time and in-person in Waltham, MA.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
- Licensure from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education in Early Childhood, Grades PreK-2 (as applicable for ESL)
- MA DESE license in ESL and SEI Endorsement
- Three current letters of recommendation
- Proof of MA DESE license in ESL and SEI Endorsement (as part of application)
- Demonstrated subject matter competence in ESL instruction
- Currency in Massachusetts curricula frameworks and WIDA standards
- Ability to plan and assess curriculum and instruction
- Effective classroom management and differentiation
- Excellent communication with students, parents, colleagues and administrators
- Proven commitment to equity and diversity in instruction
- Participation in ongoing professional development
- Ability to align instruction to Massachusetts frameworks and departmental syllabi
