Job Summary
Electronics Engineer (Embedded Systems) for the MEROPE project within the NOVA Optical Infrared instrumentation Group. Develop and deliver an experimental breadboard AO setup with deformable mirrors and wavefront sensors; simulate light absorption and thermal effects with COMSOL or Zemax; use simulations with the setup to compensate for thermal deformations in gravitational wave cavities and double the light energy in the cavity; transfer and install the breadboard at Nikhef (Amsterdam) and integrate into a 1064 nm laser cavity for gravitational wave detection; document results and report findings to the project team. Requirements include a Master’s degree in electronics/embedded software/experimental physics, 5+ years of experience in electronics for optical instruments, experience with adaptive optics is a plus, and strong English/Dutch communication and reporting skills. Also emphasizes teamwork, accuracy, innovation, and hands-on approach.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in electronics, embedded software engineering or experimental physics
- Over 5 years of experience developing electronics for optical measurement systems and/or scientific instruments
- Experience with adaptive optics is an advantage
- Excellent reporting skills
- Good English and Dutch communication skills
