Job Summary
Read engineering drawings, BOMs, and schematics to assemble mechanical and electromechanical subassemblies, gas handling racks, manifolds, and vacuum components for quantum computing systems. Cut, bend, route, and install stainless steel tubing, fittings, valves, and instrumentation while performing drilling, tapping, and alignment tasks. Safely operate hand tools, power tools, and torque tools to complete pressure and vacuum testing, helium leak checking, and basic electrical assembly including cable routing and connector installation. Document production logs, work orders, and inspection records while communicating build status and improvement ideas to Engineering and Production teams. Maintain a safe, organized work area and support lab, shipping, and receiving activities as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Post-secondary technical diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 4+ years of hands-on experience assembling complex mechanical or electromechanical systems
- Experience with tubing, fittings, manifolds, gas, vacuum, or pressure systems, instrumentation, or mechanical rack assembly
- Comfortable using hand tools, power tools, torque tools, measuring tools, and basic shop equipment
- Able to read and follow engineering drawings, BOMs, schematics, and written work instructions, including multi-level BOMs
- Strong attention to detail and ability to perform accurate work with minimal supervision
- Self-motivated, proactive, reliable, and collaborative
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, interpersonal, and communication skills
- Willingness to ask questions, learn new skills, and contribute practical ideas
- Comfortable sitting, standing, bending, lifting, and working with mechanical assemblies for extended periods
- Able to lift and move objects up to 50 lbs
- Flexibility to support peak production periods when needed
- Willingness to support lab, field, production, or shop activities as required
- Commitment to safe work practices, quality workmanship, and respectful collaboration
Desired Qualifications
- Swagelok or similar compression fitting experience
- High-vacuum leak checking, pressure testing, or cryogenic assembly experience
- Pump maintenance or machine shop experience
- Shipping and receiving experience
- Experience working in a startup, R&D, or low-volume, high-complexity production environment
