Job Summary

Support the department's Subject Matter Expert in sizing, designing, and testing electric motors operating up to 70,000 rpm for fans, pumps, and compressors. Perform electromagnetic, thermal, and mechanical analysis using simulation tools, create detailed CAD models and manufacturing documentation, and develop performance specifications and validation test plans. Conduct efficiency, torque, speed, thermal, vibration, and noise testing while analyzing and optimizing motor efficiency. Collaborate with manufacturing on design for manufacturability, solve assembly and repair problems, and present designs to peers and customers. This 1st shift contract-to-permanent role requires a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical engineering and 3 to 5 years of motor design experience.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (BS) in Mechanical, Electrical, or a related technical discipline from accredited college or university
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in electric motor design and development
  • Strong knowledge of electromagnetic theory and motor design principles
  • Experience with motor simulation tools
  • Hands-on experience with motor teardown
  • Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor)
  • Understanding of winding techniques, lamination stacks, magnets, and insulation systems
  • Familiarity with motor manufacturing processes and materials
  • Ability to interpret and create detailed engineering drawings applying ASME Y14.5M
  • Must have knowledge of drawing and drafting standards
  • Works under constant supervision
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
  • Hands-on test and hardware experience

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in the development of military or aerospace equipment
  • Understanding of military specifications, environmental specifications, and test specifications
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • General machine shop experience
