ELECTROMECHANICAL DESIGNER/ENGINEER

Job Summary

Design and document electro-mechanical systems, assemblies, and components from concept to deployment using CAD software like SolidWorks and OrCAD. Assist engineers in trade space evaluations, PCB development, wiring harnesses, and interfacing connectors while coordinating with suppliers and the Navy. Develop 3D models and drawing details, guide documents through NAVSEA configuration management, and build, troubleshoot, and test prototypes. Participate in team meetings to plan complex technical tasks and write reports, procedures, and test plans. Requires a SECRET clearance, proficiency in design software, and experience with rugged electronics systems. Located at NUWC Newport, RI, and surrounding areas with Monday-Friday core hours.

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to Obtain/maintain SECRET Clearance
  • Ability and willingness to take direction
  • Clear and concise communicator
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks, SolidWorks PDM, circuit works, OrCAD or other PCB and cable harness design software
  • Familiar with the process of developing, manufacturing, testing, and trouble shooting PCB electronics and integrating with complex system
  • Clear understanding of packaged electronics systems & components from enclosures, sheet metal, mechanical assembly, PCB development, testing and validation for rugged applications
  • Minimum 5 years' relevant experience with a Technical Certificate in design, drafting, electronics or other related discipline
  • Minimum 3 years' relevant experience with a bachelor's degree in engineering, i.e. mechanical, electrical, or systems engineering
  • U.S. citizenship
  • Department of Defense Secret Security Clearance or higher is required at time of hire
  • Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information

  • Familiarity with programming, robotics, or similar cross functional experience
  • Minimum 3 years' relevant experience with a bachelor's degree in engineering, i.e. mechanical, electrical, or systems engineering is preferred
  • Other education or qualifications considered with experience relevant to this role
