Job Summary
Oversee the fabrication/assembly process of electro-mechanical prototypes from start to finish, ensuring all work is completed on time and to high-quality standards. Read and interpret technical drawings and schematics to determine fabrication requirements, then operate basic power tools to cut and shape materials such as metal, plastic, and wood. Manage a team of junior fabricators by providing guidance, training, and direction as needed. Ensure all fabrication work meets quality control standards, troubleshoot mechanical or electrical issues, and maintain accurate records of materials, labor, and equipment. Collaborate with design and engineering teams to meet specifications while complying with safety regulations and maintaining a clean work environment. Manage shipping and receiving for components and inspect parts for quality assurance.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Technical certification or associate's degree in welding, metal fabrication, or a related field
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in fabrication or a related field
- At least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role
- Extensive knowledge of fabrication techniques, equipment, and materials
- Strong understanding of mechanical technical drawings and electrical schematics
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Attention to detail
- Ability to manage a team of junior fabricators/technicians and provide guidance and direction
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines
- Ability to lift heavy objects
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time
- Knowledge of safety regulations
- Ability to maintain a clean and organized work environment
Desired Qualifications
- Strong technical background in metal fabrication or a related field
- Knowledgeable about fabrication techniques, materials, and equipment
- Strong background in troubleshooting electrical systems (actuators, sensors, PCBAs) for primarily DC systems
- High degree of attention to detail
- Ability to identify and troubleshoot issues that arise during the fabrication process
- Creative and resourceful approach to problem-solving
- Ability to work independently and make decisions under pressure
