Electrified Powertrain Calibration Internship - Fall 2026

Job Summary

Participate in development and validation of electrified powertrain controls for Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV), Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV), and Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) applications. Carry out bench, dynamometer, and vehicle-based development while creating requirements for controller software to meet project goals. Analyze experimental data, present findings to team members, and support the validation and release of controls software. Perform hot, cold, and high-altitude development testing to meet customer objectives, and assist with calibration of powertrain functions including diagnostics, safety, thermal systems, and high voltage. Collect data and work hands-on with electrical systems and components. This paid internship supports the fall semester of 2026 in Livonia, MI, with a 40-hour work week M-F.

Required Qualifications

  • currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical, electrical, software, or automotive engineering
  • available for the fall semester of 2026 and be able to work a 40-hour work week M-F
  • minimum sophomore standing
  • valid driver's license and clean driving record
  • Willingness to travel and/or work overtime upon request
  • Basic knowledge of powertrain system operating principals and controls
  • Able to read and interpret controls algorithms presented in MATLAB, Simulink, or C-based software documentation
  • Able to read and interpret wiring schematics
  • Course or lab work using multimeter and hand tools to identify and resolve basic electrical issues
  • Strong problem solving and communication skills
  • self-starter
  • the ability to work in a team environment
  • Good computer skills and proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)

Desired Qualifications

  • Hands-on hybrid and/or electric vehicle development experience
  • Experience with high voltage systems and related safety practices
  • Electrified powertrain course work or project experience
  • Experience with ETAS INCA and/or ATI Vision calibration tools
  • Experience with Vector CANalyzer or similar, including J1939 protocol
