Job Summary
Locate and determine electrical malfunctions using test instruments, then repair issues by replacing elements, fuses, or defective wiring. Test generators and heaters for safety and efficiency, while installing fixtures, motors, and other equipment with hand tools. Inspect circuits for proper shielding and grounding, repairing systems according to building codes and safety regulations. Perform duties under the supervision of the Coordinator for Facilities and the Trades Foreman, responding to work orders and consulting applicable electrical codes. Work in varying environmental conditions, including extreme heat and cold, and may supervise I.C.T. students and summer workers as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Possession of a high school diploma or G.E.D. certificate.
- Considerable experience as an apprentice electrician.
- Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license issued by the State of Virginia.
- Must have a good driving record based on the criteria of the Williamsburg-James City County School Division.
- Knowledge of national and local electrical codes.
- Knowledge of theory, application, diagnostics, and troubleshooting associated with electrical systems.
- Ability to read and understand service manuals and test equipment instructions.
- Ability to perform manual labor and lift up to 100 pounds.
- Ability to stand, stoop, and bend for long periods of time.
- Ability to use hand and power tools.
