Job Summary
Test electrical, mechanical, and electronic locomotive systems and sub-assemblies; conduct track testing of locomotives in compliance with operational rules and safety standards; diagnose, troubleshoot, adjust, and repair defects identified during testing; read and interpret precision instruments, gauges, and meters; set up test equipment and instrumentation to evaluate system performance; operate locomotives and mobile equipment; record test data; assign and manage daily work tasks for team members to ensure safety and timely completion; follow written work instructions, scopes of work, and QWIs accurately and safely; utilize troubleshooting methodologies to identify root causes and develop solutions.
Required Qualifications
- 0–2 years of experience or technical certification/degree in electrical or mechanical field
- 2+ years of relevant technical experience (Skill Level II)
- Strong troubleshooting ability using schematics and engineering specifications
- Functional knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems (locomotive experience preferred)
- Ability to read and interpret electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic schematics
- Strong documentation skills to clearly record deficiencies and non-conformances
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Experience working in high-voltage environments
- Knowledge of computer systems, electronics, and test equipment
- Proficiency with Microsoft Windows and Office applications
- Prior locomotive testing or heavy equipment mechanical/electrical experience
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in confined spaces
- Frequent standing, walking, kneeling, squatting, and climbing
- Able to work indoor and outdoor in non-climate-controlled conditions
- Able to work in extreme temperatures, weather, noise, vibration, oils, and lubricants
- Ability to read schematics and instructions; exposure to loud environments (PPE required)
- Safety-sensitive position working around live tracks and heavy equipment
- Strict adherence to safety protocols (including blue flag procedures)
- Required use of all personal protective equipment (PPE)
