Electrical Technician

Job Summary

Build and install control boxes and panels meeting design specifications, then troubleshoot control systems during fabrication, commissioning, and startup. Perform initial testing on newly designed equipment before shipment, replace components like batteries and drives, and conduct preventative maintenance. Read blueprints and schematics to assemble systems according to engineering data, while diagnosing faults using manuals and PLC ladder diagrams. Train entry-level employees, coach staff on proper duty execution, and complete special projects or other assigned tasks. Work under limited supervision to exercise independent judgment on the best approach to achieve desired outcomes.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 3 years relevant experience in the electrical/electronic fields
  • Ability to demonstrate high proficiency in electrical/electronic fields
  • Associate's degree in Electronics Engineering, Applied Electrical Technology, or Engineering Technology
  • 4 years of prior experience manufacturing electrical panels
  • Familiarity with reading, comprehending and building from design blueprints and schematics
  • Ability to use electrical test equipment
  • Ability to use all wiring related tools
  • Keen sense of attention to detail
  • Highly safety conscious
  • High level of interpersonal skills
  • Oral and written communications skills
  • Ability to download and troubleshoot PLC Programs
  • Basic electrical knowledge of low and high voltage
  • Ability to troubleshoot, pull and label wire in panels
  • Ability to bend, run and attach rigid conduit
  • Ability to read and understand blue prints, electrical schematics, and wiring diagrams
  • Working knowledge of PLC's
  • Working knowledge of AC and DC drives
  • Working knowledge of operators interface terminals
  • Ability to work on own and as part of a team
  • Ability to interpret procedures and policies
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment
  • Ability to determine best approach to achieve desired outcomes
  • Ability to examine specifications of customer's order using drawings, work orders, or blueprints
  • Ability to ensure product meets desired standards/ specifications
  • Ability to rely on experience
  • Ability to perform all preventative maintenance on equipment
  • Ability to perform problem solving and troubleshooting
  • Ability to coach and train employees on the position and proper execution of duties
  • Detailed knowledge of all equipment, machines, and duties
  • Ability to regulate equipment as necessary for the work performed
  • Ability to provide technical assistance and resolution when electrical or engineering problems are encountered
  • Ability to make minor repairs to equipment and support equipment
  • Ability to inspect and clean equipment
  • Ability to train entry level employees up to Level 2
  • Ability to replace back up batteries, encoders, servomotors, drives, cabling, sensors, switches, transducers, breakers, fuses, relays, contactors
  • Ability to troubleshoot faults and breakdowns using blueprints, manuals, manufacturer specifications, machine diagnosis, control parameters, PLC ladder diagrams and experience
  • Ability to assemble electrical and electronic systems and prototypes according to engineering data and knowledge of electrical principles
  • Ability to use hand tools and measuring instruments
  • Extensive knowledge of PLC's
  • Extensive knowledge of AC and DC drives
  • Extensive knowledge of operators interface terminals
  • Ability to work on own and as part of a team
  • Ability to complete special projects upon requests
  • Ability to perform duties under limited supervision

Desired Qualifications
