Job Summary
Execute electrical installations for lighting, power systems, and network equipment on Naval vessels, installing cabinets, wiring circuits, and connecting MIL-SPEC components. Troubleshoot malfunctions, repair damaged gear, and perform cable pulling and termination for copper and fiber optic systems. Lead junior personnel, provide training to Technician Levels II and I, and stand in as Lead Technician when required. Read technical drawings and specifications to ensure compliance with OSHA, NAVSEA, and shipyard safety policies. Work under supervision of a Lead Technician Level IV while maintaining a DoD Secret security clearance.
Required Qualifications
- Must be a Marine Electrician
- Minimum of 5 years relevant experience working in ship repair onboard US Navy ships
- Experience with and demonstrate proficiency with multi-pin copper connectors of cables per Navy Standard Item 009-73 (MIL-STD-2003-5)
- Current active Secret clearance
- Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain/maintain a DoD Secret security clearance
- Successful completion of Navy 'A' School or successful completion of a Shipyard or commercial Electrical apprenticeship program
- Proven experience in marine electrical systems
- Must be able to demonstrate understanding and ability to use electrical tooling (ex: voltmeter, megohmeter etc.)
- Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving ability
- Excellent physical condition with the ability to lift 50 pounds on your own
- Willingness to travel to various locations in support of ship maintenance availabilities
- Flexibility with regards to scheduling and planned support due to constant Navy movement
- Thorough knowledge of safety procedures and guidelines
- Ability to obtain and maintain Navy CAC or DBIDS security credentials
- Ability to obtain access to shipyards, local and other various locations
Desired Qualifications
- Technical education may be substituted for a portion of the experience requirement
- Current certification proof for multi-pin copper connectors
- Mil Fiber Optic certification
- Cableway inspection certification
- Experience with leading AIT teams during shipyard availabilities
- Must be familiar with NAVY Standard Items
- Individual must have a keen attention to detail and be quality metric driven
- Familiar with basic computer skills
- Familiar with MS-Office programs including Word, Excel and Project
- Successful completion of Navy 'C' School
- Recognized shipyard apprentice graduates
- Current active Secret clearance is a plus
- Ability to read, understand and follow customer work item requirements, drawings, and wiring diagrams
