Electrical Systems Engineer

Job Summary
Develop electrical designs for power systems, including technology selection for inverter-based resources and specification of equipment such as breakers, transformers, and protective relays. Create single line diagrams, detailed drawings, and specifications while validating designs against codes and standards like NFPA 70, IEEE, and NERC. Perform power system analysis covering load flow, short circuit, and transient stability studies, and investigate failures to improve system reliability. Author technical documents and submittals, supervise design verification testing and commissioning, and collaborate with instrumentation teams on integrated protection systems. Support junior engineers and communicate directly with clients and management to deliver solutions across utility, commercial power, and federal services sectors.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science, Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from an ABET-accredited university
- At least three (3) years of work experience in the field of electrical power systems
- Strong analytical skills with a fundamental understanding of the underlying first principles of engineering
- Familiarity with, or the ability to quickly become familiar with, industrial design standards, codes and regulations including but not limited to IEEE standards and NERC regulations
- Experience using electrical analysis tools to develop solutions for electrical power system problems
- Excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with clients and senior management
- Excellent written communication skills with the ability to explain complicated technical issues and summarize key findings and recommendations at an executive level
- Passion for leading and motivating project teams, encouraging teamwork, managing change, and making timely, effective decisions
- Good time management and organization skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Strong questions attitude and ability to accept that in others
- Estimated 10% - 20% travel as required by project assignments
Desired Qualifications
- Master of Science, Electrical Engineering (MSEE) degree
- Experience with Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools for developing electrical drawings
- Experience specifying, designing, and developing design verification tests or equipment commissioning test programs
- Experience delivering comprehensive solutions to multi-disciplinary problems with engineers of all backgrounds
- Comfortable working in a dynamic engineering environment, often working on several technically diverse projects simultaneously
- Experience working through a complete electrical project lifecycle (i.e., design, equipment specification and procurement, installation, and commissioning)
