Electrical Specialist II

Job Summary
Troubleshoot, install, program, and repair electrical equipment and distribution systems ranging from 110 to 480 volts, including 5 kV and 15 kV gear, while performing preventive maintenance, calibration, and fault-finding on motors, variable frequency drives, and control systems. Coordinate maintenance work with contractors and engineers to estimate time and materials, examine systems for new equipment recommendations, and prepare documentation and reports for all maintenance activities. Read electrical schematics and blueprints, draw conduit installations, and test electric motors and control systems using digital multi-meters and other diagnostic instruments. This role supports the Permian EOR group at the Wasson Plant in Denver City, Texas, focusing on improving plant system uptime and reducing operating costs within Oxy's global energy operations.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma, GED or equivalent experience
- 4+ years oilfield and/or electrical and electric distribution systems experience
- Demonstrated self-starter with the drive and ability to learn quickly, as well as the initiative to challenge the status quo
- Team-oriented; excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills, with the ability to interact effectively with team members and other groups, such as electrical engineers and energy providers
- Flexible and adaptable, with the ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision
- Excellent time management skills, multi-tasking and prioritization abilities
- Excellent analytical and problem solving capabilities, including diagnostic and repair skills for complex problems in electrical distribution systems and protection
- Proficient at reading electrical schematics and using all test equipment associated with troubleshooting electrical equipment and electric distribution systems
- Demonstrated knowledge of installing, troubleshooting, and repairing switchboard control panels and components, motor circuits, building and lighting circuits, and control/relaying circuits
- Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical/micro-processor relay logic and ladder logic as well as programming simple ladder logic programs
- Capable of safely supervising electrical contractor work for distribution and transmission line work and troubleshooting wide voltage range of equipment
- Able to perform preventive maintenance on electrical equipment such as switchgear, breakers, etc.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical writing
- Capable of managing and maintaining invoices/billing, with an acute attention to detail
- Good computer skills and networking knowledge; proficient in MS Office software suite
- Valid driver's license and excellent driving record
- Knowledgeable of NEC and OSHA standards
