Electrical Estimator - Mission Critical

Job Summary
Conduct mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) estimating, budgeting, and bidding for assigned projects. Review plans and architectural drawings to prepare quantity take-offs, identify omissions, and solicit subcontractor bids while analyzing them for conformance to specifications and pricing. Maintain current information on construction code changes and utilize software programs to calculate, record, and track estimates. Compute cost factors for management planning, vendor selection, and cost-effectiveness determination. Organize a centralized cost estimating database, analyze completed projects to compare estimated versus actual costs, and provide recommendations to reduce future discrepancies. Interface with architects, clients, business development, and operations staff to ensure clear understanding of project objectives and resolve issues.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in construction engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, related field experience with mechanical or electrical subcontractors, or experience with MEP Design Firms or equivalent experience required, plus 2-3 years of MEP estimating experience
- Well-developed estimating, communication, financial analysis, budgeting, purchasing, negotiation, and computer skills
- Possesses sufficient knowledge of all construction systems and disciplines, including mechanical and electrical, in order to complete comprehensive cost estimates without assistance from others
- Analytical Skills – Demonstrated ability to gather, relate, and compare data from different sources, ensuring data is reliable, complete, and accurate
- Communications – Proven ability to speak, write, and listen in a manner that commands attention and respect
- Decision Making – Ability to analyze variables and contingencies, evaluate circumstances, assess potential outcomes, and develop a logical and timely solution that is consistent with the needs of the situation
- Estimating – Demonstrates strong ability to accurately develop complete labor, material, and other costs associated with the full execution of various MEP projects that balance cost-effectiveness with client satisfaction
- Financial Analysis – Demonstrated ability to understand and analyze construction cost and financial data; ability to use financial data to make accurate change orders, project schedules, general conditions, and other business decisions
- Interpersonal and Negotiation Skills – Strong ability to forge solid working, trusting, and partnering relationships with subcontractors, vendors, and internal staff. Communicating data, position, or arguments in a manner that gains acceptance or agreement to reach the intended outcome. Seeks a win-win solution
- PC Skills – Demonstrated experience and competence in office productivity tools such as Word, Excel, and MS Project. Demonstrated experience in estimating and other construction project management software such as Take Off, Bluebeam, Destiny (or equivalent), Building Connected and competent with Excel formulas
- Self-Starter – Demonstrated skill at accomplishing work without the need for close supervision. Acts based on urgency, client needs, and the needs of the firm without always having to ask someone for guidance
- Time Management – Demonstrated ability and success in accomplishing tasks by established deadlines; demonstrated discipline in using time management tools and techniques to effectively multitask when needed
