Electrical Engineering Lead - Power Gen / Energy Storage

Job Summary
Direct electrical engineering for utility-scale power and energy storage projects from early definition through energization. Establish system architecture for generators, substations, and plant distribution; integrate battery racks, power conversion equipment, and protection systems. Develop design criteria, one-line diagrams, and technical work packages while coordinating ISO/RTO interconnection requirements. Lead system studies including load-flow, short-circuit, and protection coordination; evaluate supplier proposals and review relay logic and control narratives. Represent the discipline in design reviews, constructability sessions, and client meetings to resolve multidiscipline issues. Coach junior engineers and manage schedules, budgets, and technical risks.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
- At least 10 years of relevant experience in power generation, utility infrastructure, or large industrial energy projects
- Hands-on engineering experience involving combined-cycle or simple-cycle generating facilities
- Direct exposure to battery energy storage design, interconnection, integration, or deployment
- Experience supporting a project through multiple phases, ideally from initial design through construction and commissioning
- Strong command of medium- and high-voltage equipment, plant distribution, protective relaying, and grid interfaces
- Working knowledge of applicable NEC, NESC, NFPA, IEEE, IEC, and utility requirements
- Ability to communicate technical decisions clearly to clients, suppliers, contractors, and project leadership
Desired Qualifications
- Active Professional Engineer license
- Experience with ETAP, SKM, PSCAD, or comparable power-system analysis software
- Knowledge of gas-generation-plus-storage or renewable-plus-storage configurations
- Familiarity with BESS dispatch, plant controls, and market participation requirements
- Previous responsibility for an electrical discipline within an EPC or design-build environment
