Electrical Engineer, Transmission Protection

Job Summary
Develop protective relay design specifications for transmission line and substation projects, including specifying protection schemes, relay models, and communication architectures. Conduct modeling for short circuit calculations, relay coordination, and breaker duty analyses using CAPE software to ensure NERC compliance. Develop relay settings through time-current and resistance-reactance studies while performing peer reviews and electronic issuance of protection settings via PowerBase. Analyze automatic trippings by gathering SCADA data and relay event records to document findings in the ED Outage Analysis system and manage corrective action plans. Support infrastructure projects, capital budgets, and load interconnection studies while collaborating with operating companies and reliability councils. Perform assigned field storm roles during significant system disturbances and demonstrate a solid commitment to safety and technical research.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering (BSEE, BSCE, BSME) from an ABET accredited institution
- Professional Engineer's (PE) License
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited institution
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering or technical field of study (non-ABET) plus an advanced degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor's program
- Electrical Engineering
- Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Certificate
- Minimum of 2 (two) years of Engineering experience
- Minimum of 3 (three) years of Engineering experience
- Minimum of 5 (five) years of Engineering experience with a BS in Engineering
- Minimum of 7 (seven) years of Engineering experience with a BS in Engineering Technology
