Job Summary
Own EMI/EMC technical direction across spacecraft by defining grounding, bonding, shielding, and filtering architectures from unit to vehicle level. Lead qualification campaigns for MIL-STD-461 and GSFC-7000 standards, adjudicate compliance waivers, and perform pre-compliance analysis to mitigate emissions and susceptibility risks. Diagnose complex issues during bring-up and integration, drive root cause analysis, and build the company's test capability including procedures, fixturing, and instrumentation. Establish standards and mentor engineers while partnering with RF, power, and mechanical teams to ensure EMC is designed in. Support hardware through production and launch to maintain compliance from first article through delivery. Requires TS//SCI clearance and U.S. citizenship; located in Centennial, CO or Long Beach, CA.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
- Minimum 10 years of professional experience in EMI/EMC engineering, with demonstrated ownership at both the unit and system level
- Deep, hands-on experience executing and interpreting EMI/EMC qualification to MIL-STD-461 and GSFC-7000 (GEVS) or equivalent standards
- Demonstrated expertise in grounding, bonding, shielding, and filtering design for high-reliability electronics
- Strong working knowledge of CE, CS, RE, and RS test methods and the instrumentation behind them (spectrum analyzers, EMI receivers, LISNs, antennas, current probes, network analyzers)
- Proven ability to diagnose and resolve EMI/EMC problems during hardware bring-up, integration, and qualification
- Track record of setting technical direction and standards across multiple programs or teams
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to maintain or obtain TS//SCI clearance
- Successful candidates will be located near our Centennial, CO or Long Beach, CA locations
- Some work must be done on site
- Physical demands may include frequent standing, sitting, walking, bending, and lifting or carrying items up to 20lbs
- Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State
Desired Qualifications
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
- Experience with spacecraft or other harsh, mission-critical environments (aerospace, defense, automotive, or medical)
- Experience standing up or significantly improving an EMI/EMC test lab and capability
- Familiarity with additional standards such as DO-160, MIL-STD-464, or applicable CISPR/FCC requirements
- Experience with EM modeling and simulation tools (CST, HFSS, FEKO, or similar) for shielding, coupling, and antenna-to-platform analysis
- Knowledge of PCB- and box-level layout techniques for EMC, including stack-up, return paths, and connector/feedthrough filtering
- Experience supporting EMC requirements in customer-facing design reviews for government or defense programs
- Experience working in a fast-paced, startup environment or a similarly dynamic setting
