Job Summary
Electrical Engineer IV - Substation sought to lead and oversee substation design and deliverables, including equipment layouts, grounding systems, bus configurations, and conduct/cable schedules. Responsibilities include performing engineering calculations (grounding analysis, cable sizing, voltage drop, fault current, equipment ratings), leading equipment selection and vendor reviews, preparing design packages and documentation, coordinating across multidisciplinary teams, conducting quality control reviews, managing multiple projects with adherence to scope/schedule/budget, ensuring compliance with IEEE/NEC/NESC/ANSI, interfacing with clients to support project development and presenting engineering solutions, supporting proposals and project planning, conducting site visits and field inspections, and providing construction support as needed. Requires strong leadership, project management, and communication skills, as well as proficiency with electrical analysis software and familiarity with renewable energy, PV systems, energy storage, and related equipment.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Engineering, or related field
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required
- 8+ years of experience in power delivery (transmission and distribution systems for utilities or industrial), renewable energy, or power generation
- Demonstrated experience leading substation design projects and mentoring junior staff
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation, and electrical analysis software (ETAP, CYME, SKM, PSCAD)
- Strong knowledge of IEEE, NESC, NEC, and ANSI codes and standards
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with client-facing experience
- Experience with PVcase, PVCAD a plus
- Knowledge of renewable energy industry relating to utility-scale wind and solar projects, such as MV power systems and AC/DC distribution system a plus
- Experience with Battery Energy Storage Systems a plus
- Manufacturer experience of power transformer, circuit breaker, AIS/GIS switchgear, AC/DC inverter, etc.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
