Electrical Engineer IV - BESS

Job Summary

Lead engineering design and execution of utility-scale BESS projects from conceptual development through construction and commissioning. Review and stamp electrical design packages, approve calculations and technical reports, and manage scope, schedules, and budgets across multiple projects. Serve as technical lead providing mentorship to engineers while coordinating with project managers, clients, utilities, and vendors. Perform power system studies, conduct field visits for troubleshooting, and ensure compliance with codes and utility requirements. Travel 10% throughout the United States as project needs require.

Required Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in the United States
  • 8+ years of progressively responsible experience in BESS, renewable energy, utility, transmission, distribution, or power systems engineering
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, or related field
  • Demonstrated experience serving as a lead engineer or technical lead on utility-scale BESS projects
  • Extensive experience designing medium- and low-voltage electrical systems and associated infrastructure
  • Strong understanding of switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, protective relays, breakers, transformers, and protection systems
  • Experience with battery container systems, Energy Management Systems (EMS), Battery Management Systems (BMS), and SCADA integration
  • Experience designing inverter and PCS equipment and associated interconnections
  • Strong knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards including IEEE, NEC, NESC, NFPA, CSA, and utility interconnection requirements
  • Experience performing power system studies using ETAP, CYME, SKM, EasyPower, PSCAD, or similar software
  • Experience with modeling tools such as HOMER, Energy Toolbase, ESWare, or similar energy storage analysis platforms
  • Experience supporting interconnections to transmission, distribution, substations, and renewable generation facilities
  • Ability to travel periodically (10%) throughout the United States as project needs require

  • Construction support, field engineering, commissioning, or startup experience
