Electrical Engineer

Job Summary

Develop and use project plans to achieve construction, installation, debug, and startup goals while ensuring safety and quality. Supervise engineering techs, maintenance staff, and outside trades during equipment installation, conversion, and testing phases. Perform hands-on troubleshooting to replace defective components, modify software for process control, and re-design electrical components to reduce costs. Interface with system integrators to deliver integrated process equipment systems on-time and on-budget. Create and modify documentation including drawings, checklists, and machine specs, while procuring materials and assessing existing equipment usability. Provide training to internal and contract teams on new installation procedures and translate engineering solutions into process designs.

Required Qualifications

  • BS Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
  • Minimum 5+ years of manufacturing or related experience
  • Knowledge of power systems for 480VAC and below
  • Ability to work hands-on with the equipment using typical hand tools, instruments, and measurement/alignment devices
  • Must be flexible with the ability to manage multiple work streams in a team environment adjusting to changing priorities with a strong focus on job site safety and proactive safety approach
  • Works well in a team environment, is a self-starter and results oriented & effective in various settings to provide and present necessary information to project, department, and site leaders
  • Must be available for full time contract work anticipated to last for 1-2 years
  • Requires the employee to be on the client's Wilmington, NC site
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs

Desired Qualifications

  • Equipment or software experience preferred: AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, Windows, MS Office suite including Power Point, Excel, Word
  • PLC and PC based systems, Beckhoff PLC / Motion Control, B&R PLC Control, A-B PLC / Motion Control, Automated equipment systems experience
  • Knowledge of regulations applicable to area of expertise and works to ensure compliance (NEC, NFPA70E, OSHA, etc.)
  • Experience working on a manufacturing floor or construction environment, with a strong focus on job site safety and proactive safety approach
  • Displays a bias for action in situations of uncertainty, addresses issues and problems proactively
  • Effective communication and presentation skills
  • Project management experience, including developing project scope, budgets and schedules
  • Knowledge of the Optical Fiber manufacturing process
  • Technical skills for future assignments with other Corning Departments
  • PLC code development to achieve desired operation/throughput of new and existing production equipment
  • SCADA/HMI development, PID control theory knowledge, Electro/mechanical technical understanding
