Job Summary
Design and implement electrical systems for Intelligent Transportation Systems, integrating CCTV, variable message signs, vehicle detection networks, and traffic management centers. Develop design documentation and specifications adhering to the Canadian Electrical Code and industry standards. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including civil engineers and architects to ensure seamless system integration across preliminary, detailed, and construction phases. Provide technical leadership by mentoring junior engineers and overseeing quality assurance initiatives. Contribute to departmental growth by developing standards and templates while participating in client meetings to deliver project insights.
Required Qualifications
- Design and implementation of electrical systems with experience in ITS Design
- Design and integrate systems including: CCTV and video surveillance
- Design and integrate systems including: Variable Message Signs (VMS)
- Design and integrate systems including: Vehicle detection systems
- Design and integrate systems including: Fiber optic communication networks
- Design and integrate systems including: Traffic Management Centres (TMC)
- Design and integrate systems including: Road Weather Information Systems (RWIS)
- Design and integrate systems including: Automatic Incident Detection (AID)
- Design and integrate systems including: Connected and Smart Transportation infrastructure
- Develop and maintain design documentation, specifications, and reports in accordance with industry standards
- Collaborate with architects, civil engineers, and other multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems into larger projects
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to junior engineers and design teams
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, local codes, and industry best practices
- Participate in client and project meetings, providing valuable input and insights
- Contribute to the growth of the Electrical department through the review and development of standards and templates
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in good standing with a Canadian engineering regulator
- 5-10+ years of progressive experience in electrical engineering roles
- Minimum 3 years of direct experience working with MTO
- Strong working knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with both internal teams and external clients
- Strong project management skills with the ability to lead and mentor teams
- Knowledge of sustainability initiatives and energy-efficient design practices
Desired Qualifications
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and Civil 3D softwares used for infrastructure projects will be considered an asset
