Job Summary
Perform complete designs for electrical and instrumentation engineering assignments, including preliminary estimates, material take-offs, and detailed calculations for construction materials. Produce installation details, motor control center layouts, cable schedules, and grounding plans while adhering to department design standards and the National Electrical Code. Assist the drafting group in resolving layout problems, review vendor and discipline drawings for conformance, and develop construction specifications for procurement inquiries. Conduct fieldwork to gather data, check tie-ins, and provide technical guidance to less experienced personnel. Collaborate with design leaders to ensure smooth information flow and advise senior engineers on scope changes.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university
- Professional Engineering registration
- 4+ years of relevant industrial experience in electrical and instrumentation engineering
- Knowledge and application of the current version of the National Electrical Code (NEC)
- Familiarity with specifications and installation details of construction bulk materials and equipment
- Ability to perform lighting level calculations
- Ability to size wire, conduit and overcurrent protection for both lighting and power applications
- Ability to perform voltage drop calculations
- Ability to route conduit and cable tray
- Ability to calculate tray and conduit fill
- Ability to determine motor control center loading
- Ability to create accurate electrical installation documents from the information found on vendor equipment drawings
- Ability to determine load center unit substation loading
- Ability to size control valves using appropriate software
- Ability to develop specifications and data sheets for instrumentation, analyzers, control systems and actuated valves
- Familiarity with standards that apply to instrumentation and controls (ISA)
- Ability to develop equipment specifications for equipment such as motor control centers, variable frequency drivers, induction and synchronous motors, load center unit substations
- Knowledge and understanding of schedule constraints and information requirements for the production of all electrical deliverables
- Ability to develop a construction cost estimate, a detailed engineering schedule and a man-hour budget for a small project or an area for a larger project
- Ability to determine construction material quantities
- Knowledge and application of company engineering design and CAD drafting standards
- Working knowledge of CAD software, either AutoCAD, Microstation or both
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Good presentation skills
- Virtual team skills and cross divisional relationships are developed and able to provide interoffice execution support with general supervision
- Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time
- The selected candidate must be authorized to work in the United States
