Job Summary
Electrical Engineer, High Voltage role leading end-to-end design and technical execution of HV and MV systems for utility-scale solar and battery storage. OwnHV substations (115kV–500kV) and MV collection (34.5kV–480V); oversee interconnections, transmission design optimization, and MV collection performance from development through commissioning and operations. Direct EPCs, Engineers of Record, and consultants to optimize design, manage interconnection scope with ISOs/utilities (CAISO/ERCOT), and lead field troubleshooting of relay operations, misoperations, and equipment failures. Perform root-cause analysis using relay reports, SCADA data, and diagnostics; define upgrade/retrofit projects; ensure NERC and regional compliance; support Operations and IE diligence; develop engineering standards, testing protocols, and participate in FAT/SAT and commissioning activities. Requires strong HV/MV engineering foundation, experience with power system studies and modeling, and ability to drive design decisions across project lifecycles.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience leading technical scope for HV substations (345kV–500kV) and MV collection systems (up to 34.5kV)
- Experience in managing EPCs, consultants, vendors, and cross-functional teams through project lifecycle
- Ability to diagnose and resolve plant and substation issues using relay data, SCADA, inverter logs, and equipment diagnostics
- Strong working knowledge of HV/MV equipment, protection and control schemes, metering, substation SCADA, and design trade-offs
- Proficiency with steady-state modeling tools (ETAP, SKM, DIgSILENT, or similar)
- Familiarity with NEC, NESC, IEEE standards
- PE license preferred
- Bachelors in Electrical Engineering; Masters or PhD a plus
- Knowledge of NERC PRC & regional requirements (CAISO, ERCOT)
- Experience with protection setting changes, control system tuning, and equipment replacement to improve reliability
