Job Summary

Lead engineering and construction of temporary and permanent power generation plants, including gas turbines, solar arrays, and hybrid systems to meet facility energy demands. Oversee build and commissioning of power infrastructure by coordinating with construction teams for safe installation and integration with site utility feeds. Develop maintenance programs featuring predictive schedules and performance monitoring while conducting hands-on troubleshooting and repairs on power generation equipment. Perform detailed power system analyses such as load forecasting and energy modeling to optimize cost and efficiency in a high-demand manufacturing environment. Collaborate with utility providers to negotiate grid interconnections and design resilient on-site generation to minimize downtime. Drive innovation in sustainable power solutions by incorporating energy storage and renewable sources into permanent generation plants. This role is based at the McGregor Rocket Development Facility in Texas with travel opportunities to other SpaceX facilities. Candidates must be available for extended hours, weekends, and on-site work in various environments.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or other engineering discipline
  • 3+ years of experience in electrical engineering, with a focus on power generation design, construction, or maintenance
  • Must be available to work extended hours and weekends when needed, based on site operational needs
  • Physical ability to perform hands-on work in various environments, including heat, cold, rain, and tight quarters
  • Ability to work onsite at our McGregor, TX facility (Remote work not considered)
  • Ability to travel as needed
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. unassisted
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Texas or eligibility to obtain one
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. lawful permanent resident, Refugee, or Asylee (or eligible to obtain required authorizations)

Desired Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in industrial or manufacturing facility electrical engineering, ideally in aerospace, telecommunications, or high-tech sectors
  • Experience working with utility providers for grid connections, metering, and demand management
  • Proficiency in electrical design software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, ETAP, or SKM PowerTools)
  • Knowledge of power generation systems, including generators, transformers, switchgear, and protective relaying
  • Direct experience with utility-specific requirements, including interconnection agreements, tariffs, and renewable integration
  • Expertise in designing hybrid power systems combining utility feeds with on-site generation (temporary and permanent), including microgrids or energy storage solutions
  • Familiarity with sustainable energy practices, such as integrating solar or battery storage for facility resilience
  • Strong project management skills, with experience leading electrical construction projects from concept to commissioning
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with shifting priorities and tight deadlines
