Job Summary
Conduct electrical design on 12 kV to 500 kV substation projects from conceptual stages through construction. Develop AC & DC load calculations, cable sizing, and one-line diagrams; prepare security, fire detection, and access control designs with specifications. Generate cable schedules, wiring diagrams, and material take-offs while reviewing vendor documents against project requirements. Respond to site information requests, complete project documentation including as-builts, and travel to consult with internal groups, contractors, and clients. Ensure latest safe practices are integrated into designs while working within assigned budgets and schedules.
Required Qualifications
- Electrical Engineering Technology Degree from a recognized institute or college
- Canadian Professional Engineering Technology Designation (C.E.T)
- ability to register as a Certified Engineering Technologist
- 5-12 years of electrical design experience
- Experience with AutoCAD
- Experience with MicroStation
- Experience with lighting design and associated software as Dialux or AGI32
- Experience with fire detection & protection design
- Experience with security & access control design
- Strong understanding of regulatory codes and standards, including CSA, NESC, NFPA, and ANSI / IEEE
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with high voltage substation design
- Experience with power system calculation and associated software as ETAP
- Experience with MV cable sizing and associated software as CYMCAP
