Job Summary
Lead new product development in R&D by transforming conceptual ideas into fully commercializable electric heating technologies. Design product controls and electrical architectures, including schematics, P&IDs, and PLC/HMI programming for applications ranging from industrial process heating to snow melters. Develop control algorithms for thermal processes, execute rigorous test plans, and troubleshoot equipment failures while balancing innovation with regulatory constraints. Provide technical support across Sales, Engineering, and Production departments. Collaborate within an agile lab environment to drive projects from inception to commercial release, leveraging state-of-the-art equipment to validate designs and maintain awareness of industry trends.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in an Electrical Engineering role
- Strong understanding of Industrial Control Systems
- PLC programming (ladder logic and structured text)
- HMI & SCADA development
- Instrumentation and sensors
- Electrical fundamentals
- Industrial communications and networking
- Experience with industrial communication protocols such as EtherNet/IP and Modbus TCP
- Familiarity with electrical design software (AutoCAD Electrical, SEE Electrical, or equivalent)
- Proficiency reading and creating electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
- Strong understanding of project management principles, risk assessment, and go/no-go decision-making
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to apply scientific principles to address complex challenges
- Familiarity and experience with certification bodies and standards, including CSA, UL, and IEC
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with Rockwell Automation, Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Schneider, or similar PLC platforms
- Knowledge of temperature control systems, PID tuning, and thermal dynamics
- Direct experience designing, specifying, or testing electric heating equipment
- Familiarity with electric control systems and power electronics
- Exposure to embedded system design and programming
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or progress toward certification
