Job Summary

Develop a productive, impactful research program in robotics, sensor fusion, or AI, disseminating findings through high-quality publications and attracting external funding. Teach upper-division undergraduate and graduate courses while developing curriculum for lower-division classes, and mentor students in the M.S. and Ph.D. programs. Contribute to service across the department, school, and university, and engage with a diverse academic environment. Join the ECE faculty at Santa Clara University's Sobrato Campus starting September 1, 2027, with a start date of fall 2027.

Required Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering or a closely related field by appointment start date
  • A demonstrated research track record or strong research potential in robotics, including high-quality journal publications
  • A commitment and demonstrated potential to teach at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and to engage in curriculum development
  • A commitment to contribute to a diverse and inclusive academic culture
  • Candidates must demonstrate substantial expertise beyond a single area of specialization
  • Candidates should have academic, industrial, or equivalent research experience
  • Candidates should be able to articulate plans for future impactful research in their areas of interest
  • Candidates should have an articulated plan for engaging with a diverse academic environment and student body through teaching, research, service, and mentorship
  • The ideal candidate will have a commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate and graduate levels in areas related to traditional and emerging areas in electrical and computer engineering
  • Candidates are expected to contribute to graduate teaching and research mentorship in the M.S. and Ph.D. programs in Electrical and Computer Engineering
  • Employees approved to telecommute are required to perform their work within one of these states (California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, and Illinois)

  • Expertise in the areas of robot perception and sensor fusion
  • Expertise in motion and task planning
  • Expertise in resource-aware robotics
  • Expertise in the design of safety-critical robotic systems
  • Expertise in manufacturing and principled uses of AI in these and related fields
  • Ability to collaborate with faculty across multiple disciplines
  • Potential collaboration plans with industry in their research statements, where applicable
  • Ability to attract external funding
