Job Summary

Support classroom leadership and implement developmentally appropriate principles through daily activities addressing children's emotional, physical, intellectual, and social needs. Collaborate with co-teachers, parents, and volunteers to plan curriculum, prepare activities, and maintain open centers while observing and documenting behavior using Kindertales. Enforce safety protocols, universal precautions, and licensing standards by supervising children, removing hazards, and intervening in potential injuries. Assist with daily documentation, attendance, and program records while attending team meetings and monthly staff development workshops. Maintain strict confidentiality and report suspected child abuse or neglect immediately per DCF protocols.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in early childhood education or field related to early childhood education
  • Minimum of two years' teaching/coaching experience in a social service/school setting
  • Current CPR/First Aid Certificate
  • Medication Administration Training
  • Epi Pen Certification meeting State of Connecticut Licensing requirements
  • Approval through BCIS (background check and fingerprints through Office of Early Childhood)
  • Health Assessment at time of employment
  • Physical ability to lift unspecified weights, stand, bend, use hands to finger/handle/feel, reach with hands and arms, talk or hear, transfer individuals, stretch, walk, push, and/or pull
  • Ability to walk frequently; occasionally sit, climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and taste or smell
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, follow instructions and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
  • Ability to use independent judgment, meet deadlines and work flexible hours
  • Ability to communicate clearly with others, both verbally and in written form
  • Ability to organize, to show initiative and to pay attention to detail
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team member to build positive school-family partnerships
  • Ability to use logical, clear, concise reasoning to make decisions in performance of job
  • Ability to use and learn computer software and to calculate and comprehend basic math calculations
  • Ability to work with and relate to preschoolers and their families
