Job Summary

Develop daily classroom activities and routines that foster children's social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth within the Early Head Start program. Plan and implement individualized lessons based on ongoing assessments, while conducting daily health checks and maintaining a safe, age-appropriate environment. Support parents through home visits, conferences, and parent education meetings to reinforce continuity between home and center. Provide direct supervision to volunteers and custodial staff, manage classroom supplies and budgets, and lead monthly emergency exit drills. Ensure all children receive developmentally appropriate opportunities that honor their cultural backgrounds and special needs.

Required Qualifications

  • AA degree in Early Childhood Education and/or Child Development
  • currently attending courses towards a BA degree
  • California Children's Center Permit or a California Child Development Teacher Permit from the Commission on Teacher Credentialing
  • Minimum of two (2) years paid experience working with children 0-5
  • Bilingual (English-Spanish)
  • Ability to speak, read and write English well enough to understand and be understood by others
  • Ability to include parental input into goals for a child's development
  • Ability to relate to diverse groups of people including low-income families
  • Sensitive to the needs of others
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Sincere commitment to providing services to children and the community
  • Ability to assess and respond quickly to varied situations
  • Must possess own vehicle
  • current and valid California Driver's License
  • at minimum, general liability automobile insurance
  • LiveScan fingerprint clearance
  • Mandatory pediatric first aid and CPR certificate
  • Regular attendance, Monday thru Friday
  • Must provide updated educational transcripts as required
  • Must provide vaccination records for influenza, pertussis and measles at the time of employment
  • Influenza vaccine required annually thereafter
  • Must pass a pre-employment Health Screening, including passing a physical examination
  • verification of a T.B. clearance
  • Drug screening
  • Health Screening and T.B. clearance must be issued within six (6) months of employment
  • Health Screening and T.B. clearance must be renewed every four years
  • Must possess own vehicle, and possess a current and valid California Driver's License and at minimum, general liability automobile insurance
  • Must possess LiveScan fingerprint clearance at all times during employment
  • Mandatory pediatric first aid and CPR certificate, which employee is responsible to maintain, as a condition of employment for the duration of their employment in this position
  • Regular attendance, Monday thru Friday, according to the work schedule provided by the site supervisor
  • Must provide updated educational transcripts as required
  • Must provide vaccination records for influenza, pertussis and measles at the time of employment
  • Influenza vaccine required annually thereafter
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds

Desired Qualifications

  • BA degree preferred
  • 6 infant/toddler units
  • Experience working with Infant/toddlers is highly desirable
  • 6 infant/toddler units are highly preferred
