EHS Specialist

Job Summary
Facilitate site-level EHS initiatives by detecting sub-standard performance using leading and lagging indicators and swiftly taking action with leadership teams. Support the implementation of Valmont's EHS Playbook and annual goals to reduce risks, while assisting in hazard control, incident investigations, and root cause analysis for corrective actions. Manage data for EHS events, permits, and regulatory reporting, and partner with regional management to deploy standards and training programs ensuring compliance. Serve as a liaison between site, regional, and HR teams to drive continuous improvement and emergency management strategies within a manufacturing environment.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Associate's degree
- 3 years of EHS or related experience
- 5 years of experience of EHS or related experience
- EHS responsibility with an emphasis on implementation and maintenance of environmental, health and safety programs, fire prevention, sustainability and risk management
- Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other applicable federal, state, and local EHS regulations
- Experience conducting safety inspections, risk assessments, and incident investigations
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work independently or as part of a team
- Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships and communicate clearly and effectively with diverse audiences across various professional settings
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint for creating professional training, audit, and management presentations
- Proficiency in Excel for data analysis, metric tracking, spreadsheet creation, formulas, and basic data visualization
- Proficiency in Word for drafting, formatting, and maintaining policies, procedures, reports, and regulatory documentation
- Track record of making effective decisions, even when dealing with limited or ambiguous information
- Ability to lead or support corporate, division, business unit and site teams responsible for managing EHS risks
- Successful completion of the Valmont EHS Specialist curriculum within three months of hire
- Previous experience with multi-national companies with progressive EHS programs
- Experience with OSHA Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP) or ISO 45001, 14001
- Prior experience implementing and/or maintaining an enterprise-wide database system
- Experience in a similar heavy manufacturing industry
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses and hard hats
- The incumbent is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time
- The incumbent is occasionally required to move about the office
- The employee is occasionally required to move about the office
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds in working with large files, binders, and computer equipment
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception
Desired Qualifications
- Preferred Bachelor's or Associate's degree with 3 years of EHS or related experience, OR 5 years of experience of EHS or related experience
- Experience with OSHA Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP) or ISO 45001, 14001 desired
- Prior experience implementing and/or maintaining an enterprise-wide database system
- Experience in a similar heavy manufacturing industry
