EHS Specialist I

Job Summary
Ensures EHS policies and procedures are adhered to by all site personnel in compliance with local, state, and federal rules. Assists with development and delivery of EHS compliance training (site orientation and awareness). Responds to incidents and coordinates investigations to identify hazards, verify corrective actions, and monitor effectiveness of controls. Coordinates with vendors, contractors, and engineers to ensure EHS standards are met. Assists with creation of Job Hazard Analyses (JHA) and annual reviews. Coordinates and conducts Emergency Response Training and Drills with the Site Emergency Response Team. Supports evaluation and selection of new equipment and related procedures with engineering/management. Collects wastewater, storm water, chemicals, and other materials for analysis and maintains documentation. Updates internal EHS content, manages the site compliance calendar, and maintains EHS enterprise systems from first report to closure. Provides technical guidance on health-related issues and proper PPE use. Assists with reviewing/updating EHS procedures and manuals. Schedules and facilitates site Safety Committee meetings and escalates concerns to plant management. Participates in extended EHS projects and is on-call to respond to incidents.
Required Qualifications
- A degree from an accredited college or university in environmental science, occupational health, public health, or natural sciences; 0–3 years EHS experience required, or in lieu of a bachelor’s degree, a high school diploma or GED with 5+ years in an EHS-related position; effective oral and written communication skills; strong technical writing; demonstrated leadership in a self-directed manufacturing environment; ability to coordinate with vendors, contractors, and engineers; knowledge of creating Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and conducting annual reviews; ability to update EHS procedures and manuals; ability to manage incident reporting and EHS enterprise systems; willingness to participate in site safety committees and on-call incidents
