Job Summary
Plans, directs, and implements organization environmental, health and safety (EHS) programs to ensure a safe, healthy, accident-free and regulatory-compliant work environment by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates. Plans and implements EHS policies and procedures in compliance with OSHA and EPA rules; trains managers and employees in work site safety practices, fire prevention, and correct handling techniques for chemicals, equipment, and other materials. Leads regulatory compliance activities including record keeping and reporting; prepares studies and analyses of industrial accident causes; inspects facilities for hazards; guides accident investigations; oversees workers' compensation program; prepares safety exhibits for industry events; represents the organization in safety groups; maintains safety files; supervises 1-2 employees within EHS; handles interviewing, hiring, training, performance appraisal, and discipline. Education/Skills/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental (preferred) or related field and 7+ years of Safety/Environmental leadership experience; demonstrated success in improving EHS performance; strong communication and leadership skills; knowledge of environmental and OSHA regulations; experience in workers’ compensation practices; ability to read and interpret technical documents.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental (preferred) or related field (natural sciences, engineering, chemistry, or similar)
- minimum of 7+ years work experience Safety/Environmental leadership experience
- Demonstrated success in improving EHS performance and establishing best practices
- Proven examples of effective communication and listening skills
- Demonstrated team leadership skills
- Experience in managing EHS programs
- Knowledge of environmental and OSHA regulations
- Broad knowledge of workers’ compensation regulations and best practices
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents and regulations
