Job Summary
Implement and adapt environmental, health, and safety policies to ensure regulatory compliance and protect organizational reputation. Manage environmental staff, coach team members, set performance goals, and develop training programs. Develop the site EHS Strategic Plan, balance business needs with safety requirements, and drive performance to reduce the risk profile. Coordinate internal audits, regulatory inspections, and external submissions while preparing reports for leadership. Identify and execute special EHS projects within budget, maintain stakeholder relationships, and benchmark against peer companies. Stay abreast of proposed regulations to ensure facility readiness and meet division targets.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree (± 16 years) in Safety, Health, Environmental Science, Technical or a related discipline
- Five to twelve years of experience in environmental, health and safety
- A minimum of two years of supervisory experience
- Sound judgment and problem-solving skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal and consulting skills
- Good organizational and computer skills
- Consistent customer orientation
- Multi-disciplinary function
- Ability to balance business needs with EHS requirements
- Capability to drive EHS performance, reduce site Risk Profile, and provide EHS support to other functional areas
- Capability to communicate EHS performance to Site Leadership
- Capability to prepare for and coordinate internal audits and regulatory inspections
- Capability to identify options for special EHS projects and manage/execute in a timely manner and within budget
- Capability to prepare/coordinate reports for internal and external regulatory submissions
- Capability to ensure facility meets Division EHS targets and objectives
- Capability to develop EHS training programs
- Capability to maintain relationships with the community, environmental groups, and stakeholders impacted by the EHS performance of the organization
- Capability to stay abreast of proposed EHS regulations, assess impact of draft proposals on the business, and ensure facility readiness to comply with promulgated laws
- Capability to benchmark with peer companies
- Capability to develop and meet EHS Department budget
- Capability to initiate, prioritize and assignment of EHS projects within the facility
- Capability to be responsible for the overall EHS performance of the facility
- Capability to coordinate the investigation of serious accidents
- Capability to be accountable for internal and external audits and inspections
- Capability to be accountable for the facility EHS plan, site EHS procedure accuracy, effectiveness and implementation
